Joas Cardoso was born in Breves-Pa–Brazil in 1985.  He initiated his musical studies at the age of eight in the Music Conservatoire ‘Carlos Gomes’ with Peter Saraliev and later Aureo de Freitas.  Joas has had Masterclasses with Maud Martin Tortelier and Bernard Greenhouse at the age of thirteen. 

Joas has been highly awarded in competitions, in 2000 he won second prize in the Paulio Bosisio Soloist Competition and at the IBEU Cello competition he was awarded a special prize as the most promising musician.  Joas has been studying with Richard Markson at Trinity College of Music since 2002 where he graduated in 2007, he now continues on the Masters course whilst developing his career as a soloist and a chamber musician.
